Thistrol Gold Herbicide THISTROL Nufarm

Description

Thistrol Gold Herbicide

Active Ingredients: MCPB @ 300g/L, MCPA @ 20g/L, & Flumetsulam @ 10g/L

Thistrol Gold Herbicide is for the post-emergence control of certain broadleaf weeds in clover, medic and grass pastures (including mixed clover/grass and medic/grass pastures) and chicory as a component of clover, medic and grass pastures. Thistrol Gold gives you excellent efficacy without compromising pasture growth, with an early use pattern in clover and medic from two trifoliate leaves.

Thistrol Gold Herbicide contains a unique triple active ingredient combination of MCPB, MCPA & Flumetsulam, resulting in early control of a wide range of broadleaf weeds, with excellent crop safety. The flexible use rates and ability to tank mix with insecticide make Nufarm’s Thistrol Gold Herbicide the perfect one-drum pasture solution.

  • MCPB (300 g/L): Delivers a high phenoxy dose to weeds to maximise control while maintaining pasture safety and improving pasture quality. MCPB (like 2,4-DB) is unusual because it has little primary herbicidal activity. Instead, MCPB undergoes beta-oxidation within weeds and converts to MCPA, immediately toxic to the plants.
  • MCPA (20 g/L): Kick-starts the MCPB ß-oxidation process, delivering reliability in adverse conditions, a historical challenge with straight MCPB formulations
  • Flumetsulam (10 g/L): Provides a second mode of action and complimentary weed activity, delivering a wider weed spectrum and even greater reliability without compromising the safety of the overall formulation.

Thistrol Gold Herbicide achieves the best control on small, actively growing plants. Exceeding the age/size restrictions may reduce control of those weeds to suppression at best.

The registration for Thistrol Gold Herbicide only includes use in certain temperate species, including clovers, medics and grass pastures (including mixed clover/grass and medic/grass pastures) and chicory as a component of clover, medic and grass pastures. There are no tropical or sub-tropical pastures listed on the registered label. Any off-label use in tropical or subtropical pastures should only be conducted under the advice of an agronomist or from the manufacturer, Nufarm, who can be contacted on 1800 683 276.

Thistrol Gold Herbicide registered APVMA label; 'General Instructions' - Pasture Safety lists several pasture species that have been accessed for crop safety, with certain species/varieties showing different levels of crop safety. Unfortunately, the grasses listed do not include native grasses. They are as follows: Italian ryegrass, Perennial ryegrass, Cocksfoot, Tall fescue and Phalaris. The APVMA label can be found on the Thistrol Gold product screen. Scroll down to the heading 'SDS & Technical' and select PDF files available to download or print. For further clarification on the safety of native grasses, we recommend contacting the manufacturer, Nufarm Australia, p.  1800 683 276  w. https://nufarm.com/au/contact/

Tips For Use

General Instructions:

  • Certain species/varieties may show different levels of crop safety.
  • Do not use on Lucerne.

Pasture Safety – The following pasture species have been assessed for crop safety.

  • Clover (Trifolium spp.):
    • Arrowleaf clover, Balansa clover, Persian clover, Rose clover, Strawberry clover, Subterranean clover and White clover.
  • Medic (Medicago spp.):
    • Barrel medic, Snail medic, Spineless burr medic and Strand medic.
  • Grasses:
    • Italian ryegrass, Perennial ryegrass, Cocksfoot, Tall fescue and Phalaris.
    • Barley and Oats are sensitive.
    • Transient stem shortening and crop discolouration may occur.
    • Application prior to Z21 to Wheat, Barley or Oats is likely to cause biomass reduction.
  • Chicory (Cichorium intybus):
    • Balance, Choice, Commander, and Puna II

Adjuvants & Surfactants:

  • Banjo Spray Adjuvant is recommended @ 0.5%.
  • It improves the reliability of MCPB in adverse conditions by increasing uptake and enhancing accumulation at the site of action, and is also essential for Flumetsulam activity.
  • Note – Nufarm has discontinued Banjo Spray Adjuvant. An equivalent adjuvant made from methyl & ethyl esters of free fatty acids from canola oil is Effectivoil Spray Adjuvant.

Mixing:

  • To ensure even mixing, half-fill the spray tank with clean water and add the required amount of product.
  • Add spray additive and agitate thoroughly, then add the remainder of the water.
  • Agitate again before spraying commences.
  • Do not tank mix with other herbicides.

Rainfast Period: 6-Hours

Preferred Water Volume:

  • A minimum spray volume of 80 L/ha is advised for optimum results. Aerial application min 30L of water per hectare – using the higher volumes is preferred due to more reliable results.

Plant Back Period:

  • The actives found in Thistrol Gold are broken down in the soil by microbial activity.
  • Warm, moist soil conditions favour the highest microbial activity and quickest residue breakdown. The plant back period varies according to rate and crop.
Refer to the label for specific details.

Restraints:

  • Do not apply to plants that may be stressed (not actively growing), including but not limited to prolonged periods of extreme temperature (less than 5°C or greater than 30°C), moisture stress (water-logged or drought-affected), poor nutrition, disease, insect damage or previous herbicide treatment (e.g. triazines or sulfonylureas) as reduced levels of weed control and/or increased crop injury may result.
  • Do not apply if rain is likely within 6 hours or if heavy rains or storms are forecast within 48 hours.
  • Do not irrigate (any method) for 6 hours or to the point of runoff for at least 48 hours after application.
  • Refrain from slashing or mowing pastures within 7 days before or after spraying.
  • Do not allow the stock to graze paddocks with poisonous plants until these plants have died down, as they can become more palatable after spraying. An increased quantity of poisonous plants may be eaten by stock using Spray/Graze, e.g. Caltrop, Capeweed, Paterson’s curse and Variegated thistle, and deaths could result from causes such as nitrate poisoning.
  • Do not graze horses or pigs on Paterson’s curse.
  • Do not use seeds from treated chicory to grow crops for human consumption.
  • Do not apply by spraying equipment carried on the back of the user.

Precautions:

  • Re-entry period – Do not allow entry into treated areas until the spray has dried.

Protection Of Crops, Native And Other Non-Target Plants:

  • Refer to Minimum Re-Cropping Intervals for crop rotation information.
  • Crops susceptible to Nufarm Thistrol Gold include but are not limited to canola, cotton, faba beans, lupins, sorghum and sunflowers.
  • Dangerous to aquatic plants and susceptible crops.
  • Do not contaminate dams, channels or drains with the product or used containers.

Protection Of Wildlife, Fish, Crustaceans And the Environment:

  • Very toxic to aquatic life.
  • Do not contaminate streams, rivers or waterways with the product or used containers.

Storage:

  • Store in the closed, original container in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight.
  • Protect from frost.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Refrain from storing near food.
